A Wine Drawn from Legend
When the farm was founded, the Franschhoek valley was far wilder than it is today – as the wolf trap we once discovered goes to show. Today, the mountains are still alive with indigenous animals, including the majestic leopard. No evidence of wolves has ever been found though, so we created this wine to remind us of the mysteries and legends of days gone by. The Wolftrap is a rich, deep red blend that includes Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Viognier.

Wolftrap White 2010
Final blend: Viognier 67% | Chenin Blanc 19% | Grenache Blanc 14%
Winemakers comments: A friendly style displaying characteristics of the components in harmony. The Viognier grapes are sourced from a dry- land vineyard in Malmesbury, the Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch and the Grenache Blanc from the Piekenierskloof near Citrusdal. The Chenin Blanc and Grenache Blanc were barrel matured in French oak, after which the Viognier was blended and the wine was cold stabilized, filtered and bottled.
TASTING NOTES: Fruit blossom, spices and almond flavours, followed with a well textured palate with nice weight and a rounded finish. The wine has a lingering aftertaste with subtle wood flavours.

Wolftrap Rose 2010
Blend: Syrah 66 % | Cinsaut 20% | Grenache 14 %
Winemakers comments: Juice drawn off from the must (method known as “saignee”) of the three cultivars are cold-fermented in stainless steel and blended before bottling. With this method we attain a pink wine with lots of fruit and a balanced acidity. The Syrah lends a spicy aromatic character to the wine and the Cinsaut and Grenache offer juicy fruit.
TASTING NOTES: Bright pink in colour with a tinge of blue hue. Fruity flavours of strawberries and a touch of spice on the nose. Fruit carries on to the palate with a good long dry finish.

The Wolftrap Red Syrah 2011
Blend: Syrah 65% | Mourvèdre 32% | Viognier 3%
Winemakers comments: Sourced from Malmesbury in the Swartland the Syrah provides the spice and weight while the Mourvèdre adds structure and aroma to the blend. The pungent Viognier component boosts the perfume profile. French oak matured with the Viognier blended prior to bottling.
Tasting notes: Intense red colour with a purple rim. A spicy profile with ripe black fruit and violets. Smooth and rich on the palate with soft tannins, good density and a hint of oak. A well balanced, unpretentious wine made for easy drinking.
